Every effective medical treatment has side effects and complications. In the use of voice prostheses too, we are also aware of a range of typical problems and complications. Corresponding procedures for managing complications have been developed. The most common problem affecting a voice prosthesis – in 86% of cases – is leaking. At just 14%, actual speech problems are quite rare. Problems with leaking usually occur transprosthetically. The rate of leakage around the voice prosthesis (periprosthetic) is 13% - 27% (1, 2).

In order to make a specific search relating to a particular problem easier for the user, we have divided complication management into problem areas.
