Fahl offers two multifunction cannula series, the Duracuff series and the far more highly developed Duratwix series.
The outer cannula of the Duratwix cannulas consists of relatively soft PVC that adapts to the geometry of the tracheostoma and tracheal geometry at body temperature. The inner cannulas are made of firm material, and using them will reinforce the cannula if this is desired.
As a future-oriented further development of the flexible cannula shield, the cannula shield of the Duratwix cannula is attached to the conical cannula tube by a ball joint, and can be moved in any direction. This prevents traumatisation of the tracheal membranes when swallowing and moving the head. The tip of the cannula is rounded atraumatically. Other special features of the Tracheotwix cannulas are the rooftile filters that reduce the secretions compared with a standard filter, and the atraumatic insertion guide.
The inner cannulas of the Duratwix cannulas are sealed by a turning mechanism, and are available with a 15mm connector for connecting respiration equipment or a 22mm connector. A low-pressure cuff is used.
