Provox® 1

Clinical application

The Provox 1 prosthesis is a stable low-pressure indwelling prosthesis that was for many years the primary choice for laryngectomies. Insertion is retrograde via a guide wire, which facilitates a safe positioning of the esophageal flange but is quite unpleasant for the patient when the prosthesis is changed. The Provox 1 prosthesis is therefore increasingly being replaced by the Provox 2, the insertion of which is anterograde and which is also suitable for primary use. Two key differences from the Provox 2 are that the enclosure around the valve is almost circular, and there is a 90° safety thread on the tracheal flange.
